Boston’s Book Tour Event Focuses on Entrepreneurs

The Boston event was a blast, not only because of the warm reception from old friends and colleagues, but also because of the new connections made.

The event took place on September 12th at the bustling Dorchester Brewing. The reality of Boston traffic had faded away since I hadn’t visited in a while, but it came rushing back since that last mile was a doozey. Dining on great food and beer and connecting with an attentive group made it all worthwhile! You can see the Boston highlight reel on YouTube.

This event focused on entrepreneurship with special guest was Olivia Adams of Cami Health. As an early stage entrepreneur who is currently accelerating her business with the help of MassChallenge, she is focused on the mission of creating a personal assistant software application for caregivers of disabled children. In 2021, Olivia was also was named a Bostonian of the Year by The Boston Globe for creating macovidvaccines.com, a website that helped people find COVID-19 vaccine appointments during the height of the pandemic.

During the evening, Trish covered a few concepts from Why Women Pivot that focused on:

  • Ways women work and excel in business
  • The need to mentor and encourage each other given that we move in and out of the workforce as we care for others
  • The trends in female entrepreneurship

With Olivia as a great example of how female entrepreneurs navigate the waters of building and funding businesses, she validated some of the issues raised in WWP including:

  1. Mission-driven female entrepreneurs work to solve problems that impact them personally
  2. While Olivia was provided with leadership opportunities when she worked in her corporate role, dipping her toe in entrepreneurial waters during maternity leave gave her the confidence she needed to lead in a bigger way
  3. Getting investor attention is never easy but women often face the added challenge of being taken seriously as business leaders. Given that all-female teams are the least-likely to receive VC funding, be prepared to demonstrate devotion, coachability and an ability to communicate strength and trustworthiness regularly
