On July 17th, the second stop of the book tour brought together amazing local panelists and participants navigating many different phases of their careers. This event had a mixed audience of men and women who helped take the discussion in some interesting new directions. The event took place at Revolution Hall in downtown Portland and their excellent team made sure everything came off without a hitch.
Panelists included Rachel Lehman, Senior Strategist at Hyatt and Chairwoman of Women@Hyatt, as well as Grace Walker, a currently pivoting CPA who is expanding how she is thinking about her career options. Both panelists discussed how they found their professional niche and how that process impacted their self-perception, personal brand. Both referred back to the chapter from Why Women Pivot on career phases when making their remarks.

Audience questions allowed us to delve into the topics of how to rectify compensation imbalances, and how best to help others who may be struggling with a pivot.
Shout-Outs from Attendees
Wednesday night’s ‘Why Women Pivot’ event was right on point with ideas and inspiration for all of the women I know. Trish Barber spoke easily to several key topics in the book and she and the panelists had thoughtful answers to audience questions. Mentoring, girls in STEM and self-promotion were just a few of the things discussed from various angles. This book has become my go-to resource and gift for so many friends! Sue Walker, retired operations director
While one might assume that Trish’s book and event would be most applicable to women of a certain age or situation. I found her message and the discussion to be helpful and meaningful to a whole host of ages and situations. Jane Morrison, Oregon Humane Society
It was so wonderful to be surrounded by a group of women, focusing on different paths and careers but united by a desire to achieve sustainable goals and find a true satisfaction in their journey. During the panel discussion it was very refreshing to hear the statistics and insights from the work force regarding the role that women play in different stages of their life in different industries, especially in the STEM world. I’ll be applying the insights from this wonderful book in my next pivot! Bravo, thank you Trish! Marisa Lentoni Powers, Nike
